Our matriarch Juanita Ash was born in Cleveland Ohio on 3/12/33 to our beloved grandfather Oliver Galloway and grandmother Mary Burnett. She moved to Sugar Hill to live with her father at 961 St Nicholas Ave where she subsequently raised her family. At her grand life cycle of 85, On January 18th, our mother transitioned to heaven and we trust was met by our late grandfather Oliver, grandma Mary, grandma Margaret, great-grandma LuLu, Her brother Norman, her late husband Richard “Dickie”, our sister Beverly Shamecca, and brother Steven.
Our mother loved children. For many years, she worked in the nursery of The Church on the Hill and provided childcare in her home for working mothers. Once the last grandchild grew up and moved out, she became an avid basketball and football fan. She would watch NBA rerun games and you’d better not say a bad thing about Lebron or Paul Pierce. She was the most generous person and would go without to make sure you had whatever was needed and you better believe those Christmas cards had at least a crisp $10 bill in them.
Here to celebrate her life are her children Reverend Doctor Judy Davisals- Pride, Adrian Ash, Larry Ash, Sharon Ford, Daryl Ash, Tamara Hawkins, Son in Law Reverend Doctor Jonathan Pride, and Son in Trust Bernard Hunter.
She was the root of our family tree. From her foundation grew tree limbs of grandchildren: Jeffrey and his wife Qusandra, Scott, Yusef, Chakima “Gucc”, Talaia, Kenneth, Larry, Lafawn, King, Asa, Daryl, Shaquita, Tasia, and a crew that lovingly referred to her as Grams.
These grandchildren set forth more limbs from the tree trunk grown from her roots to add great-grandchildren Rashawn, Talitha, Koron, JaQuan, Zhane, Dillon, Tenaj, Maliyah Rose, Steven, Nasir, Lenaiyah, LaRae, and Naysia.
Tiny leaves on those limbs are sprouting with 5 great great grandchildren.
We will miss our Mother however, her love and joy will forever be etched in our hearts.
